Buying an LCD? Noticed how LCD manufacturers have humongous values for contrast ratio that seem too out of this world? None of that is based on any scientific standard and they are all just trying to outdo each other. Nothing beats looking at the screen itself and trying them side–by–side. If the screen’s specifications are available, get one with an IPS panel as opposed to the more common TN panels. You’ll love the better viewing angles. Comments Off on Buying an LCD? The Apple Refresh of Q4 2009

2009 Apple iMac

It would be a surprise if you haven’t heard about the news on Apple’s updates to its consumer computing line, so I’ll just give some brief details on them. The new Apple iMac now comes in 21.5 and 27 inch widescreen versions, with resolutions more than enough for typical users. The cheaper model sports full HD 1920×1080, while the more expensive one has 2560×1440. Wow.

2009 Apple MacBook

The new white MacBook is now almost the same as the MacBook Pro with the same LED–backlit screen, multitouch glass trackpad, and 7–hour battery life. With a 250GB hard disk, it has more storage than the cheapest MacBook Pro, making it seem like a better a value.

Apple Magic Mouse

To cap it all, the new Magic Mouse is one of the coolest pointing devices ever made, being a mouse and a touch surface in one package. The joke’s that it also magically makes your 70 USD disappear.

And while we’re talking about Apple new products, there’s still a few more updated products that aren’t getting enough attention right now.

HP Mini 311

HP Mini 311

The HP Mini 311 is a new netbook that pairs Intel’s Atom processor with Nvidia’s new Ion platform to produce a new type of product that should be more common in the coming days—ones that packs strong graphic performance in small computing devices. With an 11.6–inch display at a resolution of 1366×768, the HP Mini 311 blurs the line between netbooks and notebooks.

If only HP’s service was better here in the Philippines, I’d love to get one for myself.

Globe Super-Unli

Globe Super Unli

Every time Globe offers promos like this, I feel bad I’m on postpaid. Though their new “Globe Super–Unli” offer is for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers, the prepaid guys just seem to squeeze a bit more value for their money.

Globe Super–Unli gives you unlimited calling and texting to Globe/TM for only P150 for 5 days. That’s simply unlimited with no catch at all.

Globe Tattoo gives you Super-Unli. Enjoy unlimited texting AND calling to Globe/TM for only P150 for 5 days. Now you’re free to connect non-stop with friends, anytime and anyway you want to because it is complete with unlimited texting and calling.

It’s so easy to subscribe to Super-Unli! Simply text SUPER150 to 2824, and you’ll enjoy unlimited texts to Globe / TM for 5 days. To make unlimited calls, change the 0 to 238 at the start of the Globe / TM number you are calling (eg 238917xxxxxxx).

There’s also more details for everyone on Globe Super–Unli.

Dirt-cheap Globe Broadband Tattoo Kits!

globe-broadband-tattoo

Well, not literally “dirt–cheap,” but Globe now has the cheapest prepaid broadband USB kits which you can get for only 895 pesos, a 1000–peso discount from its usual price. You get the USB 3G modem along with five hours of internet surfing, another 100–peso value. This offer is good until the end of October 2009.

But wait, there’s even a better deal: you can get the limited edition National Bookstore Globe Broadband Tattoo Kit for only 695 pesos if you buy Dan Brown’s latest book, “The Lost Symbol.”

At these prices, it’s almost too hard not to choose Globe’s prepaid broadband service just for its price though I’m sure Smart and Sun have something to offer soon to counter this. Or else they lose a huge chunk of the market.
